Today here in the Philippines, it is March 1! Well- to some other readers, I guess, I have to offer this post as a good starter in greeting tomorrow’s first day!

We Filipinos would associate March to school graduations here. Well-I am inviting the rest of the world involved in AMSDaily, to join us in celebrating the month of March for achievements, advancements, dreams come true, and every life event that calls for some cheers!

This month, we will weekly uncover secrets from our March theme- “March!”

We need to act! We have to move! Let’s all vacate out rocking chairs and comfort zones, as we discover more about this life! In whatever state we are- forward MARCH!

And for a first post, I am re-presenting a letter found somewhere here, but that was some time ago, which you might have missed, or the words you may now no longer remember. Here it is, and it’s going to be my, your, our “Manifesto of Personal Leadership”.  :)

*******

Today, I will not look at the one behind me. I will not look at the person next to me either. No- not to the one ahead of me. I take time to look at myself.

I, with whom many others’ lives depend on- my family, my workmates, my schoolmates, my special spheres of influence;

I, who hold control of the things that rely on me- that portfolio that will hit a million; that project that will benefit many lives, that assignment that will leave a valuable impact in my community, society, my world;

I, who can make things go as I want them to… in whose blood run the power, the ability, the limitless potentials and possibility to make things happen.

Yes I am. I am a leader.

The leader of the youth, who look up and respect my elders and seniors, simply because they had been there and their wisdom I can now impart;

The leader of the elderly, who rely on my caring and attention and kindness, because I got the strength and nourishment to do it for them that I may give back;

The leader of the less, who hunger for words of inspiration and encouragement that I, too, may influence lives;

The leader of the rich, who trust me to be the overseer of their storehouses;

The leader of human resource who strive to make my loads lighter every day, and so I commit to use my authority in favor of their utmost good and welfare;

The leader of faith, who has the power to pray for people, and share God’s transforming grace according to the way I live;

The leader of this country, for every progress starts in me- the citizen.

Yes, indeed, I am the leader of everything possible.

And I pray, that I will not forget who I am. I am God’s creation.

Even in times of distress, of exhaustion, of emptiness, of darkness…

I will remind myself, “I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.” But from God, I get all the filling and courage and strength.

My power remains, my compassion and love endures, I will never give up.

I’ve been made wiser, stronger, and better. More directed, determined, passionate. I am ready to keep my beautiful purposes ablaze.

I can move. And I can move the world.

This week- start with this manifesto on yourself! And cap it with the most powerful prayer.

~Buena

Tuesdays with Ronald: Determination

Determination: firmness of purpose

Take a second to really let that word sink in.

Has it sunk in yet? Well then, lets continue!

Let me tell you a personal story about me in the hopes that it will inspire you. If you didn’t know, I am 18 years old. Trying to achieve my dreams at this age is very difficult. Not because of money (which most people would assume) but because of the number itself. When I tell people I am 18, they officially think I am to young to do anything. They think that because I am 18 my thoughts arent where they are suppose to be, I am not determined to do anything, or plain and simple “I am just to young.”

I don’t let this get to me. I keep going in life, focused & determined. I have dreams that I WILL achieve. I believe there is no one stopping me, but myself. That is one word I use quite a lot in my vocabulary. “Believe” pretty strong word isnt it?

Let’s get back into the story. I gratuated high school at 17. At the same time, I had just lost my job (happened to most people during these times though didn’t it?) But hey, it’s fine! I kept moving forward, saying to myself that things will get better. A few months after this I turned 18. My passport had expired & my social security card is not applicable to work (I was not born in this country however, I am an American Citizen.) I lost three jobs, because of this. Not lost jobs entirely, because I never exactly had them. My work papers would never go through. So I never really started.

While doing all this paperwork. I tried making opportunities for myself. After 2 months, I finally landed one. It was for a small marketing company called Focused Inc in Las Vegas. It was a non-paid internship, I knew this would be difficult but I was determined to stick through it, I knew it would help me out in the future. I stayed with this company for 3 months interning. Learning everything I could learn! I learned so much about Social Media Marketing, Email Marketing, Business Operations, Etc. I was very happy at this company, but I could only do so much by not recieving an income. The business owner at Focused Inc, a dear friend of mine. Referred me to a larger company based out of Las Vegas as well. My time with Focused was done.

All this was a span of about oh, 5 months. No income, relying on my parents for every single thing. I was late on my insurance. Overdrafted on my bank account several times, and have been wearing the same jeans for several months (disgusting I know.) I refused to ask my parents for any other kind of money, than the amount I desperately needed. People thought because I was 18, I wasnt going anywhere. People expected me to fail (I already was in peoples eyes) and it was only a matter of time before it all went downhill.

I have been interning for this new company (AdLava) for about one month now. AdLava is one of the largest (if not the largest) web design companies in Las Vegas. I am now the Social Media Director for this company. I handle all the social media for huge clients and I am the reason Social Media was added on to this company.

My story might not be that inspiring to people, and thats fine with me.However, It has inspired me to start my own website Lifessteppingstone.com. It has inspired to go after what I want in life. It has showed me that no matter how young I am, I can do big things. No matter what obstacles are thrown at me in life, If I keep my head up I will get passed them. I was taught to believe in myself and my dreams. I was inspired to FOLLOW MY DREAMS.

I hope you got something out of this story. I hope you will go out into the world and achieve your biggest dreams. I hope no matter what people tell you, you will keep striving. I hope you keep determined. Doesn’t matter what age, ethnicity, or skin color you are. I want to leave you guys with three last words, and hope they make the biggest impact of all.

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS

Take The Opportunity: Say Thanks Today

Photo of Shem-shem Pablo

By Stuart Young

This is the simplest thing in the world to do – and sometimes the
hardest. We all have occasions where saying thanks to someone really
sticks in our side.

Sometimes we might even decide not to say it at
all. But saying thanks under those conditions can really make a
difference, not only to the person you’re saying it too but to you
too.

When you can say thanks, and mean it sincerely, you are on the
path to building a bridge with that person. That relationship could
end up growing stronger or at least more bearable.
You can even say thanks to the universe for being just alive!
On the easy side – saying thanks to someone who has just held the door
open for you or moved aside to let you through can brighten their day.
That thanks will wind its way through the day passing from one person
to the next and the next.

Be the one that starts that process off and then enjoy the thought of where it might end up.

You never know, your easy thanks in the morning could end up being someone else’s difficult
thanks at the end of the day.

Special Edition Story: Crosby Tatum on “Surprise, Surprise”

By Alpha Miguel-Sanford

Crosby Tatum is up for a cause! He is the producer, director, actor, film editor for his first film “Surprise, Surprise!!!” which he and his partner Jacquin Holland have been working for over five years.

Crosby also wants your support for his project.

In his upcoming film “Surprise, Surprise”  a romantic comedy about a smart, but socially under confident college student who tricks his womanizing best friend into switching identities, to date a beautiful, charming internet girl, to save his grades and his scholarship, Crosby wants something out of it. He wants to encourage viewers to encourage self-confidence and increase self-esteem. He knows about being intimated and being left out; he was in that situation before!

Having experienced that, he wants to send out a message about his project.

This is his story:

AMS: Tell us about yourself and what are you currently involved in.

Crosby: I’m a producer, director, writer, actor, editor, musician fromBoston,MA, my hometown.  Currently I am involved in over 5 different film, television, commercial, music projects at various stages and working on a feature film with Mark Wahlburg’s older brother, Arthur Wahlburg, called “Learn From The Master.”  We are currently shooting at the moment.

AMS: When did you start Triceptus Studios? What made you build this company? Tell us about the mission of you company?

Crosby: I started Triceptus Studios back in 2002 as my own venture, inspired by a class project I did at my college, The New England Institute of Art inBrookline,MA.  What made me build Triceptus Studios into what we are today was directly centered around our accomplishments in our early years of inception.  In 2003, we had an award-winning variety TV series called “The Beantown Block”.  We also produced and aired two other comedy pilots called, “DA’ Block Presents” (sketch comedy), and “All 4our One” (sitcom) in theNew England region.  We also worked on several music video & short film projects that were accepted into over five different film festivals in theNew England/New York Area.  We also produced our first music offering, “Laz & Cat – Tricity Vol. 1.”  That is currently on iTunes, Amazon, and many online music retailers worldwide.  We continuously develop new & exciting ideas and content for all entertainment mediums available and in development, which is our company’s mission: “to make creative, innovative, thought-provoking, and exciting entertainment for audiences around the world.”

AMS: You are in the process of creating your first film, “Surprise, Surprise” with Jacquin Holland. Tell us about this exciting project.

Crosby: Well, Surprise, Surprise is a romantic comedy about a smart, but socially underconfident college student who tricks his womanizing best friend into dating a beautiful, charming internet woman, to save his grades and his scholarship.  Its a film that has high stakes, high rewards, and high hilarity, with a story that you can enjoy with your family and friends.  We currently have Maya Gilbert attached to our film.  She is a Hollywood actress who has worked on TNT’s Southland, NBC’s Harry’s Law, and was recently in Ava Duvernay’s 2012 Sundance film, “Middle of Nowhere”.  Myself and Jacquin are slated right now to produce, direct, and act in the film, and we’re talking to anotherHollywood actress to join our project.

AMS: Who is/ are inspiration behind your first film?

Crosby: Believe it or not, this film’s inspiration comes from my experiences dealing with low self-esteem, and social underconfidence issues when it comes to talking with women.  It’s also inspired by my experiences dating online and also taking shortcuts with finding the right girl to be with rather than meeting them out in the open.  My friends are also inspirations behind this story because I believe from my observations hanging with them while they talk to different women, they can just pick girls up by the mere glance at them and grab their numbers up like their eating an extra tall stack of hot-butter pancakes, effortlessly mind you.  That is in stark comparison with myself who has to summon up a big, tall glass of courage, just to say ‘hello’ to someone hoping I don’t mix my words up or trip on my own shoe laces.

AMS: Why is this film very important to you? How will this impact the rest of the viewers.

Crosby: This film is important to me because, this is my story I want to share with everyone.  Social underconfidence and low self-esteem has been an issue with myself for so long that, I feel like I need to make this film to help myself become more open and more sociable with others, including the opposite sex.  At the same time I feel like our film might help inspire and encourage our viewers to become more sociable and confident in themselves, inspiring them for higher goals, and to just be open and honest with themselves in regard to the things they love or want in life.

AMS: How would you finance this film?

Crosby: Great question.  Because our budget is around $350,000 dollars, the best way for us to finance our film is to seek out private investors while also seeking sponsors for financial and vendor help.  To raise a portion of our budget, we just started a 30-day online fundraiser on indiegogo.com, a “crowd-funding” website, to get the ball rolling with financing this movie.  How indiegogo.com works is, we set a financial goal to raise for our film, to acquire talent and begin production.  In our case, our goal is set to $50,000 dollars.  People worldwide join in on our film project by donating as little as $1 dollar, which will lead us to reach our goal before our time limit is up.  In exchange for all donations, each donor gets a reward from us for every donation they make.  We keep the money if we reach our goal or not.  But if we don’t reach our goal, our film will be “negatively affected”, and we might not be able to make our movie.  Our fundraiser is online at: www.indiegogo.com/surprise.  Please share it with your family, friends, and colleagues alike.

AMS: How do you envision this film?

Crosby: I envision our film as an urbanized, “Cyrano de Bergerac”, that meets “The Kings Speech”, “The Social Network”, and “Van Wilder” at the curb.  In some ways, our film is almost like a throwback to some of the crazy, colorful black comedies of the 90′s and early 2000′s.  Such examples would be films like “Booty Call”, “Sprung”, “Friday”, and “Strictly Business”.  Our film will just has a lot more modern day references and technology in it, tossed in with our own colorful, smooth cinematic style we’re known for.

AMS: In creating and developing the idea of this inspiring romantic comedy film, what are some of the obstacles you encountered and how did you overcome them?

Crosby: We had several obstacles that have stood in our way of getting ready to make this film.  One of them is basically money because, to make a great picture with the right cast and crew, your gonna need the money, there’s no way around that.  But, one of the more challenging obstacles we’ve faced was, overcoming objections from those who really don’t see this film in the manner that we see it and getting people on board with our film.  That as it may be, we believe in our goal, we believe in our film and the talent we have, and we’re happy to be in the position we’re in now.

AMS: What do you think are the skills needed in order to become a successful film maker?

Crosby: I think you gotta have a little bit of a thick skin when it comes to being a filmmaker because, it’s highly competitive, very close knit, everyone has an opinion whether you like it or not.  You just have to believe in yourself and your abilities, and you just have to produce and execute solid content.  Relationships are key in this business because it’s talent-driven.  It just comes down to making sure you develop and foster your own style, you have a solid network of individuals to support you, and you continuously stay busy producing, directing, acting, or anything active in filmmaking.  Everything else will fall through.  Just stay patient.

AMS: Do you thinkBostoncould be the nextHollywood?

Crosby: I believe so.  We’ve been fortunate to house many big-time productions like “Zookeeper” and “Grown-Ups” and “The Town” thanks in part to the Massachusetts Film Office which facilitates the Massachusetts Film Tax Credit.  Boston and in particular,Massachusetts has been fortunate to work with many of the industry’s finest from around the world and we want to continue the work.  Until we have a self-reliant major production and distribution studio that can house both independent and major film and TV productions here inBoston, and essentiallyMassachusetts,Hollywood will beHollywood andBoston will always be a place whereHollywood uses for its productions.  We need to change that.  That’s just my opinion on the matter.

AMS: Finally, what is your definition of success.

Crosby: To me, success is saying something that you want to do, and doing exactly what you said you would do.  Results always change.  The outcome might not be what you expect it.  But if you stay focused on your goal, work hard to get it, and not detour yourself away from it, you will achieve it.  The moment you achieve your goal is the moment you’ll find success.  Anyone who wants success, just say what you want to do.  Then go do it.  Success will be waiting for you in the end.

How to Become Popular: 5 Ways

Photo of Shem-shem Pablo

I know you want to be popular. Don’t worry, it is not just you -but most people I know. I have seen it, observed it and have studied it myself! There  is actually no way of hiding it- I know you seek a level of popularity – be it in your family, your circle of friends, at work, in your choice of social networking site such as Facebook or in the restaurant – you know you want to be seen, or heard, or be attended to! You want to be the popular person in the room whose presence is felt every time you walk in the door.

But don’t you wish you were really that popular?

So popular that everyone around you awaits for your arrival, awaits for your next idea, awaits for your next move, or your next Facebook/Twitter shout out! You wanna be that popular, right?

But somehow, some way you are not getting the audience that you want.

Here’s why:

1. You do not have the attention of your audience. Get their attention first. Do not enter the door or interrupt a conversation if your audience is busy doing something else. Wait until everybody is almost bored or is not doing anything, then get your acts together and do your thing. Start talking. Do something entertaining and make it real.

2. You are not believable. People know if you are a phony or trying hard to become the “it” individual in the room. People feel it. They know it. So, if you are just putting a show just because you really want to gain that front seat, forget it you will not get it. You have to be real and make sure you own yourself, including your mistakes.

3. You do not have an agenda. You want to be popular because….? If you want to be popular do not become popular because you want to manipulate your own agenda towards your audience. Become popular because you want something good to happen, or you want to make things right and possibly create better rules. You want to be popular because you have a meaningful purpose not a hidden, selfish agenda.

4. You are a copycat. You know you are not going to be popular if you do not have your own style. You have to have your own brand. You have to stand out and be a distinct member of the group, or the society at large. You have to be yourself and be good at it. Yes it is quite an excellent idea to study the lives and the strategies of people you admire, but going the distance and copying every single thing they do or put on themselves won’t do you any good. In fact, continuing to do so will just doom you for bigger failures.

5. You do not get personal. Most of the popular people I know within my network are popular because they really get personal. When I say they get personal they know the important facts about you, they remember events close to your heart and strike conversations that pertain to your family, your love life and your interest. They do not start talking with you about the weather, or the sports game they just saw or the latest news – but they go beyond these universal topics and  grips your heart when they ask, “so, how is your   Mom doing? When is her next trip to the Philippines?”

So, if you want to be popular and be good at it, look at the reasons. Use them and make it happen.

And when you become more popular and successful, let me know! I love reading about successful people and featuring them here.
