Day 92: A Celebratory Credo for the Broken-Hearted

You’ve got a long way to go, girl! You’ve lost some weight, cried many times at night or even at work. You’ve been totally taken by this event in your life! You’ve changed your mindset,  but it is still on your mind. You’ve told your friends you are already moving on, but deep inside you are still fragile. You’ve proclaimed that it was over but when you are alone, you know it isn’t.

The memories are still fresh and it hurts you when you hear your music  on the radio. The wounds of the past are still raw and it is keeping you from looking ahead. You said you are healed, but until you’ve totally embraced what has happened and accept the change, you know it will forever scar you.

But don’t let the scars of the past pull  you back – let them be your armor for your own success.

Let them be your guide on what could be ahead of you. There will be more failures, more tears and more disappointments to accept. But you will be able to accept them more willingly, because you’ve been there!

Let this eventful stage of your life be your courage and your strength to see the bigger picture in your life.

Be thankful that he left you – he has given you the chance to see life from a different perspective.

Be happy that he has found another one – this means an opportunity for you to find a better person than him.

Be proud that he walked away from you and your memories together – he has taught you to be more resilient about relationships and life.

Be mindful of every single step that he has taken because from these, you will become wiser and decisive for your own future.

Girl, stand up and say you’re beautiful - don’t let your EX sabotage your future!

Celebrate!

Take control – I know you can do it!

Daily with you,

- Alpha

Day 91: Advice to the Heartbroken

Photo: Shem Pablo

I know there was a time in your life when you think you have found the “one” or so you thought that was the “one”. You’ve done memorable things together, created the whole world together and built your life together. You’ve shared your dreams  and your future. You’ve become one with him. You almost lost your identity because you associated yourself with him.

But you didn’t mind it. In fact, you thought it was all right. You thought everything was fine and you were enjoying each other’s company. You were in each other’s arms, talking about life, your possible plans for the future, maybe having kids and building a home. You walked hand in hand together admiring the sunsets, the sunrise and in betweens. Your world revolves around him. You’ve given everything for him. You’ve given way too much for him!

But you still didn’t mind it. Not at all.

Because.

You were happily in love with him.

You were into him.

Absolutely, positively crazy in love with him!

You love the beating of your heart whenever you were with him!

You stayed beside him and fought for him despite your friend’s advice. You went far and beyond to be his only ally.

You almost became who he was.

But –  it came to an end.

All those good times, the dreams and the memories are now things of the past.

Yes, I know it’s hard for you to let go, especially to see him go. It’s tough for you!

But -

Girl, don’t let him stop you from being happy. Just because he left you doesn’t mean that the world came to an end. You only lost him but you still have yourself! Get yourself back together! Don’t let the past hinder you from the pursuit of your own happiness. If the past is walking on you, ran away from them as fast as you can. I know you can do it! You’ve done it before and I know you can do it again.

There are a lot more people who care for you! They even love you more – including myself!

Now -

Here is a reminder for your fabulous start:

Daily with you,

Wednesdays with Buena: Stuck

Photo: Shem Pablo

Dear Stuck,

Have you ever felt that way—caught, trapped, stranded, immovable? Stuck?

Well, listen to this.

Today, it is raining heavy and wind is whipping hard here in the Philippines.

Most classes and office works are suspended due to the floods.

In many areas are people braving the weather trying to save what they can from homes they might never see again in its usual comfortable form.

In other locations, some heads are set on the radio and television, saddened by the news of devastations and try their might to give words of comfort through calls or donations.

I’ve seen people in black umbrellas by the road, undeterred by the storm to bring their departed to its fateful rest.

Others just simply sit back, relax and enjoy Facebook.

Some still go out to work—no worries of getting wet and cold, because it’s double pay.

A wife has begged her husband to stay home safe, saying money can wait for tomorrow’s sunny day.

Children cram themselves together by the foot of the early Christmas tree and ask to be read or told their classic stories by grand mom.

A teacher suddenly decides to put down her paper works, and sits down to visit her life’s photographs.

A supervisor finally stops calling on his staff to report to office and realizes lending them today to their homes.

The cats and dogs warm themselves by the doormat, to watch with the families they serve- this time eyes on the television and not just on the burglars.

Someone out there right now is thankful enough because her exam is today, but she hasn’t reviewed yet because she is responsible for her siblings, now that both parents are abroad and bad weather has come.

Somebody reading this may just be as full of suppressed emotion and wanted to do- and thinks, maybe today is the time.

There are things in this world that we cannot control—one day, a circumstance may just stop us from what we routinely do.

It may be a bad weather, a suspended appointment, or an unapproved plan.

Yes, often times, when we are taken out of our daily busyness, or taken off from our preparations of the future, we feel bad and feel stuck. We say, “what now?!”

We curse what’s stopped us, but haven’t we seen?—Oftentimes, it came to save us from what we’ve been missing preciously in life.

Maybe it’s just telling us we’ve been into our daily businesses so closely and neglected mother earth.

Maybe we’ve been too caught in our daily choice of errands, and we need some time to get back to our families, forgotten friends and relatives, or even our faithful pets.

Maybe it’s a day off from the stressful world, and get relaxed.

Maybe it’s just about time to care, to be passionate, or simply be at peace and faithful amidst life’s storm, or by life’s surprise stopovers.

Maybe it’s a time for humankind (not things) that should be treasures in our heart.

Maybe we can remember to give hope, faith and true love.

I hope we don’t feel stuck when such moments come, as if the world has stopped.

I hope we appreciate stopping awhile, and learn to do something different out of love.

I hope stopping doesn’t stop you from becoming a more beautiful person you are.

Love,

Buena

About the Writer: Buena wrote this in the midst of the storm. As most Filipinos who were affected by the typhoon, she knows what to do in times like this. She picks up her computer then types away. She thinks, then writes, then reflects. Sometimes, this is exactly what we need in order to decompress.

Day 90: Me? Great? Huh?

Photo: Shem Pablo

Oh, please -stop it! Don’t play dumb - I know you heard it and you know it, too!

Yes – please stop ignoring what you’ve heard! You know what I just said:

YOU are GREAT!

You’ve done very well! You’ve persisted, now you are reaping what you sow.

You have worked so hard to get to where you are now and look, everybody is praising you! Everybody loves you and the work you do. You are honest, you are smart, you are caring,  you are thoughtful, you are beautiful, you are generous, you are sincere, you are lovable! That is why, people around you are telling you how great you are! People around you are grateful for knowing you and the talents you have.

But, what are you doing?

Wait – don’t walk away from these people’s comments.

Say something.

Say something nice in return.

Don’t be meek. Don’t be shy.

Accept it.

Take the fact that you are great and that you are talented!

Take every nice word that people around say about you, then tell them:

“Thank you for appreciating my work! I am glad you like it!”

Then, of course… you can smile!

Daily with you,

- Alpha

Day 89: Do it!

Photo: Shem Pablo

It doesn’t matter what it is, I am telling you right now – DO IT!

Whether it’s that one recipe that you cut from a borrowed Rachel Ray’s magazine, which promises only 30-minute prep and cooking time, just do it! Don’t procrastinate. Head to the grocery store, grab the unfamiliar ingredients from the shelves and start clearing your countertop! Cook it! Toss it! Then, serve it!

The hardest thing is the first step. I know I understand - the cold feet, the questioning stage, the doubts – there are many hurdles! I get it! I am no stranger to that.

But no matter what is occupying your mind and you have not had the time to start it – do it now!

Now is the time!

Do it!

Nothing will stop you.

Just go outside, ignite the car and then hit the road. Follow what is in your heart.

The longer you wait, the more you hesitate.

So, do it!

Do it – NOW!

Daily with you,

- Alpha
